13 Octubre. Shirahama (II parte).

En Shirahama el día se ha despertado un poco nublado, aún así hace bastante calor, así que me pongo el bañador y voy a la playa. Al igual que ayer no hay nadie en la playa y los que hay van tapados hasta las orejas. Me baño y el agua está estupenda, después de un rato en el agua salgo a secarme un poco y se me acerca una pareja tímida que me pregunta de dónde soy y como es que estando de viaje estoy tomando el sol y no yendo de un lado a otro. Es curioso que la idea que tienen del turismo implique ir corriendo de un sitio a otro sin apenas tener tiempo para disfrutar del viaje.

Decido irme a dar una vuelta a ver si el día acaba de aclarar y voy a unos baños públicos al aire libre que hay junto al mar. Se llaman Shakino-yu onsen, queda a un kilómetro al sur de la playa principal de Shirahama, pero los miércoles cierran y el resto de días solo está abierto hasta las 5 de la tarde. Así que hoy me quedo sin baño, pero encuentro un grupo de jóvenes jugando en la playa, se lo están pasando muy bien e incluso a mi hubiese apetecido jugar un rato.

Sigo caminando por la playa hasta que llego a un pequeño templo junto al mar, lo cruzo y salgo a un paseo marítimo que me recuerda a Hawai, con sus palmeras y su playa volcánica.

Voy hasta el final de la playa y descubro allí las mejores vistas de la Engetsu island. Hay un grupo de pescadores en las rocas y si sigues hasta el final de la carretera puedes coger un barco que te da una vuelta por la Engetsu island con fondo de cristal. También quedan muy próximos el acuario de la Universidad de Kyoto y una pequeña cueva donde hay un pequeño altar excavado en la roca.

Me quedo en la zona observando a los pescadores, el atardecer y vuelvo hacia el hotel. Después de estos dos días de descanso mañana iré hacia Nara y volveré a coger el ritmo normal del viaje.


13th October. Shirahama (part II).


In Shirahama the day there has been a little cloudy, still quite hot, so I put on my swimsuit and go to the beach. Like yesterday no one on the beach and there are covered to the ears. I shower and the water is great, after a while I go in the water dry off a bit and I was timid about a couple asks me where I am and how is that when traveling I'm taking the sun and no hurry to another place. It is curious that their idea of tourism involves running from one place to go to another with hardly have time to enjoy the journey.

I decide to go for a spin to see if the day and I just clarify some outdoor public baths there by the sea. Shakin-yu called onsen, is a mile south of the main beach in Shirahama, but closed on Wednesdays and other days is only open until 5 pm. So today I'm no bath, but I find a group of youths playing on the beach, they are going very well and I had desired to play for a while.


I keep walking along the beach until he reached a small temple beside the sea, cross and go to a waterfront that reminds me of Hawaii, with its palm trees and volcanic beach.

I go to the end of the beach and find there the best views of the Engetsu island. There’s a group of fishermen on the rocks and if you continue to the end of the road can take a boat that gives you a tour of the Engetsu island with the glass bottom. Are also very close to the aquarium at the University of Kyoto and a small cave where there is a small altar carved in the rock.

I stay in the area watching the fishermen, the sunset and return to the hotel. After two days of rest will go to Nara tomorrow and get back to normal rhythm of the trip.

12 de Octubre. Shirahama

Hoy he ido a Shirahama, un viaje bastante tranquilo desde Osaka de 2h30min.

La estación de Shirahama está bastante alejada de los puntos de interés y del hotel, así que cojo el bus, me bajo en la parada que viene indicada en las instrucciones del hotel y empiezo a caminar bajo un sol abrasador con la maleta a cuestas. Este ha sido el hotel que más he tardado en conseguir encontrar, el plano es bastante esquemático y no parece que vaya por el buen camino. Le pregunto a un señor pero no sabe a decirme, decido volver al punto de origen y volver a empezar la búsqueda. Sigo las instrucciones y esta vez si que parece que vaya por el buen camino, encuentro una “obachan” (abuelita) que me acompaña hasta la puerta del hotel, me va explicando algo por el camino, pero apenas entiendo que me dice que hoy hace mucho calor. Llego al hotel y le doy las gracias.

Voy a estar dos días en este pueblo, y el hotel que he elegido se llama Hotel Meiko. Por fuera y por dentro no parece gran cosa, pero cuando llego a la habitación me sorpende lo grande, amplia y luminosa que es, tengo baño y una terracita con vistas al mar.

Enciendo el aire acondicionado, cojo la cámara de fotos y me voy a explorar por el pueblo, se trata de un pueblo típico de veraneo. Solo que como es octubre es temporada baja y no hay nadie. Una solitaria playa de arena blanca ocupa todo el pueblo, solo unos cuantos turistas pasean por ella.

Decido comerme un bento del Lawsons mientras contemplo la tranquilidad de la playa. Me sorprende que con el día tan bueno que hace no haya nadie bañándose. Toco el agua y está caliente.. Decido!! Mañana mañana me pongo el bañador y pasaré el día en la playa de relax.

Paseo por toda la playa y decido ir andando hasta dos de las atracciones naturales de la zona: el Senjo-jiki, un cabo erosionado con formas curiosas, y el Sandan-Heiki, unos acantilados en los que puedes bajar en un ascensor super-rápido hasta las cuevas de unos piratas.

Increíbles las olas como rompen con fuerza contra las rocas. En esta cueva también está el templo de Bentenzai (el dios protector del mar), que según dicen trae suerte y descendencia.

Decido intentar llegar al atardecer a la Engetsu island, un pequeño islote con un agujero en el centro desde el que se puede ver el sol. No llego a tiempo de poder ver este fenómeno, aún así las vistas del atardecer son maravillosas.

Decido volver al hotel, un baño japonés y la cena. Decido que mañana será un día de relax, playa y onsen al aire libre. Es la mitad del viaje y necesito un día de descanso. Me quedo con las ganas de ir a Nachi y Kii-katsura, pero son cuatro horas de de viaje y no aprovecharía el día. Me lo apunto como imprescindible para el próximo viaje a Japón.


October 12. Shirahama.

Today I went to Shirahama, a fairly quiet trip from Osaka about 2h30min.

Shirahama station is quite far from the sights and the hotel, so I take the bus, I get off at the stop is indicated on the instructions of the hotel and start walking in the hot sun with suitcase in tow. This hotel has been slow to get the more I find, the map is very schematic and does not seem to be on the right track. I ask a man but do not know me, I decide to return to the point of origin and start the search. I follow the instructions and this time if it seems to be on the right track, I find a "Obachan (grandmother) who accompanies me to the door of the hotel, I will explain something along the way, but just understand that today it tells me very hot. I get to the hotel and I thank him.

I will spend two days in this town, and I chose the hotel called Hotel Meiko. Outside and inside not look like much, but when I get to the room it’s very big, bright and spacious it is, I have a bathroom and a terrace with sea views.


I turn the air conditioning, grab my camera and I'm going to explore the town, this is a typical summer-village. Only that as October is low season and there is nobody. A lonely white sandy beach occupies the entire town, only a few tourists walk by it.

I decide to eat a bento of Lawsons while enjoying the tranquility of the beach. I'm surprised the day so good that no one makes bathing. The water is hot and so clean .. Decide! Tomorrow morning I put on my bathing suit and spend the day at the beach relaxing.

Stroll along the beach and decide to walk to two of the area's natural attractions: the Senjo-jiki, a curiously shaped eroded out, and Sandan-Heiki, cliffs where you can fall into a super-fast elevator to the pirates cave.

Incredible waves and break against the rocks. In this cave temple is also Bentenzai (the patron god of the sea), said to bring luck and offspring.

I decide to try to arrive at dusk to Engetsu island, a small island with a hole in the center from which you can see the sun. No time to get to see this phenomenon, yet the sunset views are wonderful.

I decide to return to the hotel, a Japanese bath and dinner. I decide that tomorrow will be a day of relaxation, beach and outdoor onsen. Is the mid-trip and need a rest day. I am disappointed and went to Nachi Kii-Katsura, but four hours of traveling and do not take advantage of the day. I write it down as necessary for the next trip to Japan.
